The Pont-y-Pair Hotel is situated overlooking the old stone bridge of the same name (Pont-y-Pair) that crosses the river Llugwy in the picturesque village of Betws-y-Coed, within the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. The bridge was built in 1468 and the name Pont-y-Pair is Welsh for 'the bridge of the cauldron'.
The hotel is ideally located for exploring Snowdonia and the whole of North Wales including the Lleyn Peninsula, The Borderlands, anf Anglesey. There are many tourist attractions to visit, stunning natural scenery to explore and outdoor activities to enjoy.
Betws-y-Coed itself is a popular village in a scenic location where the rivers Conwy and Llugwy meet. The village is surrounded by the Gwydir Forest, with its lakes and mountain tracks. There are waterfalls including one opposite the hotel where you may be lucky enough to spot a leaping salmon. There are numerous gift shops and outdoor shops including well known names such as Stewart Cunningham, Cotswold Outdoor and Hawkshead.
North Wales is famous for its castles, and Conwy Castle is just down the Conwy Valley in the walled town of Conwy. There are also other castles to be visited locally at Caernarfon, Dolwyddelan and Harlech.
There are numerous steam railways in the area, and the Ffestiniog Railway, Welsh Highland Railway, Snowdon Mountain Railway and Llangollen Railway are all within easy reach.
Activities to be enjoyed include walking, climbing, horse riding, and mountain biking.
There are numerous walks ranging from hiking in the high peaks of Snowdonia to treks though forests and valleys past waterfalls and lakes. There are many walks through the Gwydir Forest above the village that you can enjoy directly from the hotel.
There are many local golf courses including courses in Betws-y-Coed, Llandudno and Conwy, and birdwatchers can visit the local RSPB reserve at Conwy. Fishing is available on the river Conwy.
Alternatively you can just relax and take in the mountain air and stunning scenery. There is a great variety on offer from the lakes and mountains of Snowdonia, to the sandy beaches of the Lleyn Peninsula or Anglesey.
